The average power factor of SCR electrical control systems for oil rig is only 0.5. Upon request of customers, the company initiated the project for energy saving of all-electric drilling rig that is to connect TSF dynamic reactive power compensation device with the 600V power grid of diesel generator set for harmonic suppression and reactive power compensation and improving quality of the grid, and ensuring reliable operation of the system.

The energy-saving system consists of harmonic suppression and reactive compensation devices, feeder switches, air conditioning and incoming/outgoing line room that are integrated in a 7m (L) × 3M (W) × 3m (H) container, thus compact in structure, reasonable in layout, easy for operation and time-saving for transport.

This energy-saving project was normally operated on 7000m drilling rigs in Xinjiang Autonomous Region for two months with stable operation of all equipments, and well received by customers. The average power factor of grid was 0.97. Under the current condition of drilling the intermediate hole, around 3 tons of oil can be saved per day on average. This is truly a great contribution to energy saving, consumption reduction and upgrading of drilling operation.
